Directed by Ron Scot Fry
How much are WE looking forward to this?! SO MUCH!! Of course, the show depends upon raising the funds to present it. To sponsor one (or more) of the minimum 2,440 people who will come together in July for the Shakespeare in the Park experience, go here.
We could tell you what it is, but instead, we'll let Mr. Chris Flieller of In Tandem Theatre do it for us: In case you're not a Shakespeare nerd, Chris will be playing Nick Bottom, the weaver who functions as the primary "clown" character in Midsummer. More about ChrisChris Flieller and his wife Jane Flieller founded In Tandem Theatre in 1998; they serve respectively as Artistic Director and Managing Director for the theater. Chris received his BFA in Theatre from Texas Christian University and earned his MFA from the Professional Theatre Training Program (PTTP, now located in Delaware). As an actor, technician and director, Chris has worked with nearly all of Milwaukee's professional theatre companies. In addition, he has performed with Utah Shakespeare Festival, Dinner Playhouse of Kansas City and several tours with the Great American Children's Theatre Company. When not working in the theatre, Chris has appeared in several independent films and commercials and he provides speech and dialect training. Most recently, Chris was seen in his 288th performance as Southside heartthrob, Stasch Zelinski in the wildly popular A Cudahy Caroler Christmas and will be featured in Juno and the Paycock with the Resident Ensemble Theatre and the PTTP located at the University of Delaware this winter. More about In Tandem TheatreIn Tandem Theatre offers creative, exciting, professional live theater in a unique and intimate atmosphere. In Tandem’s eclectic programming, affordable tickets and casual atmosphere have garnered rave reviews and made loyal patrons from the Milwaukee area and beyond. Conveniently located in downtown Milwaukee, In Tandem is in the lower level of the big red church on 10th & Wisconsin. Three-hundred free and low-cost parking options can be found within two blocks of the theatre. Relax in the comfortable, spacious lobby before a show and enjoy live piano music, air-conditioning (or fireplace, depending on the season!), a visual arts gallery and a full bar including specialty cocktails. Take your beverage into the cozy 99-seat theatre and enjoy the show with an unobstructed view from every comfy chair. In Tandem’s 2014-2015 season continues with a new comedy, Come Back by Neil Haven (Feb 27–Mar 22), a quirky comedy about grief and moving forward. The season wraps up with a fresh, witty musical, Little By Little by B. Ross, E. Greenfield, H. Hackady and A. Jolles (May 1-24). This delightful chamber musical follows the lives of three friends from childhood to adulthood where they learn the value of friendship. We've gotten the attention of a couple of year-end listers. Though WE already knew we were doing good work out here, it's always gratifying when others recognize it, too.
But then, Mike went further, calling Beth's performance out as part of a larger theme in the year's theatrical scene, "In 2014, Wisconsin theaters responded to dark themes with hopeful stories." Way to go, Beth! Those are a couple of well-deserved nods.
Optimist Theatre is so proud to create professional performances, using Milwaukee-based cast and crew, and then offer them at no charge to the community. At least, we have dates for you to write in pencil. And soon, we'll have a cast!! Audition slots have all been scheduled, and from the 60± actors who will be seen, a cast will be selected by early in the new year. Those fabulous men and women will be setting aside the weekends of July 9-12, 16-19, and 22 or 23-26 (more on that later), at a minimum. If the fruits of our upcoming funding campaign enables it, we will also include the weekend of July 30-August 2. So, start planning your summer activities accordingly. We'll certainly keep you apprised as things tentative become things final. |
